Lovedean Karate Club began in April 1982 at the Wecock Community centre, coinciding with the launch of The Shotokan of England Karate Union. With the outlook and commitment of SEKU it became only a formality for LKC to become one of the founder members of one of the largest Shotokan karate organisations in the country.

Due to an increase in membership, training was quickly increased to twice weekly and moved to Meadowlands First School, Cowplain, gaining in benefit of improved conditions, championship success was quick to follow when at the first SEKU championship in June 1982 LKC gained trophies in both Kata and Kumite ( set moves and free fighting ). This success was continued into the Portsmouth Invitation Championship in November 1982 with again LKC taking honours in both kata and kumite sections. Within six months of it's launch Lovedean Karate Club had set the standard of things to come.
