Kata

Kata is the Japanese word for 'form' traditionally used primarily in martial arts. As choreographed movements, it allows students to practice daily either alone or part of a wider group. It will take many years of practice to understand the complexity of each kata. Twists, turns, technique, along with the correct application of power, are to name just a few areas that benefit from regular kata training. Kata has been used to pass down karate from generation to generation, a tried and trusted method teaching reflecting that a true karateka has an understanding of sound kata principles to compliment his/her kumite.
